ALIGN for Families & Parent Leadership

Through the ALIGN Framework™, DABC helps families develop the knowledge, confidence, and leadership capacity necessary to advocate effectively for children navigating dyslexia, literacy difficulties, and educational inequities.

ALIGN recognizes families as:

  • literacy advocates,

  • systems navigators,

  • community leaders,

  • and educational experts grounded in lived experience.

Families participating in ALIGN strengthen their ability to:

  • understand literacy development and dyslexia,

  • navigate school systems and intervention processes,

  • participate meaningfully in educational decision-making,

  • protect children’s literacy identity and well-being,

  • and build collective community advocacy capacity.

DABC’s parent leadership work moves beyond traditional family engagement models by positioning family protective capacity as essential to equitable literacy systems.

DABC offers:

  • ALIGN Family Navigation Sessions — Immediate guidance and support for families navigating literacy concerns, dyslexia, school systems, evaluations, and advocacy decisions.

  • ALIGN Family Learning & Literacy Series — Educational workshops and learning experiences that strengthen literacy knowledge, advocacy skills, and understanding of equitable educational practices.

  • ALIGN Family Leadership Institute — A leadership development program preparing families to become literacy advocates, systems navigators, community leaders, and educational experts within their schools and communities.

ALIGN for Schools, Districts & Educational Leaders

The ALIGN Framework™ supports schools, districts, and educational leaders in strengthening literacy systems through equitable decision-making, culturally responsive practice, and authentic family partnership.

Through professional learning, leadership institutes, and strategic partnerships, DABC helps educational leaders:

  • strengthen literacy identification and intervention systems,

  • improve culturally responsive literacy practices,

  • reduce inequitable patterns in referral and support,

  • build stronger family partnership structures,

  • and develop systems that function more equitably for Black learners.

ALIGN emphasizes that evidence-based practice can only function effectively when supported by intentional system design and equitable implementation.

Poor family-school connections can worsen a child's learning outcomes. On the other hand, intentional educational communities can boost a student's ability to read. As educators, professionals, parents, and caregivers, we must join forces. Together, we can eliminate the amplified inequities for Black children experiencing dyslexia.
