The presentation gives background on brain research, the Orton Gillingham method, and a phonics scope and sequence. The presentation will also demonstrate typical tutoring activities and discuss strategies for the addressing some of the common challenges that tutors face. Participants will understand more about the value of practicing phonics skills with students in a hands-on multi-sensory way. Participants will understand how and why tutors do activities like oral brainstorming, phonemic awareness activities, repeated read-alouds, and writing from dictation.
